WHO WE ARE
Will Blozan, President Will's career in arboriculture traces back to his position as student supervisor of the Tree Crew that he began at Warren Wilson College. After graduation, he worked for two tree services in Asheville, and spent five years as a forestry and biological science technician with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Will's work for the National Park Service primarily involved old-growth resources at risk, and specifically worked on mapping old-growth hemlock forest to assist in managing the hemlock woolly adelgid. In 1998, he and his business partner, Brian Hinshaw, started Appalachian Arborists primarily in response to a general lack of ethical tree services and rampant poor pruning practices in the Asheville area. Will believes that everyone is entitled to enjoy a tree whether or not it is on their property. Trees should not be an eyesore, and are a commonly "owned" visual component of our landscape. He sees every job as an element of his community - and that philosophy drives him to perform the very best service regardless of the tree's location. Will is also president of the Eastern Native Tree Society and has started the Tsuga Search Project dedicated to documenting and preserving the largest living examples of eastern hemlock. Brian Hinshaw, Vice President Brian is an ISA Certified Arborist with eight years experience working with trees. Brian, with Will Blozan, founded Appalachian Arborists in 1998 in an attempt to bring professional and ethical tree care to the mountains of western North Carolina. |
